Aaron Laffey got his first major league win last night, as the Tribe took the rubber game from the White Sox. Perhaps the story should be that the bats came to life a little, scoring 7 runs for the first time in 12 games. Laffey looked good, though it seems that he might actually be heading back to Buffalo. The Indians claimed Chris Gomez off waivers from the Orioles. Gomez is a utility man that can play any position in the infield. He was batting .302 in 73 games for Baltimore. Word on the street is that the Tribe doesn’t want to send Asdrubal Cabrera back down. They are reportedly going to send a pitcher down because they don’t think they will need a 5th starter until the end of August because of the schedule.
In other moves, they sent Branyon to the Phillies for cash. I didn’t even have time to comment (or make fun of) the Indians getting Branyon before he was sold. Awesome. Good job by Shapiro to make a little money I guess. No word on Hafner’s injury yesterday. That isn’t good. I would like to have heard something. My guess is that they ran tests yesterday and are deciding what they are going to do before announcing anything.
At least the Tribe finally took advantage of a Detroit loss. New York also lost, and Seattle won, to maintain their stand as wild-card leader.
