100 Reasons I’m pumped about the Buckeyes…part 2

Alright OSU fans! We are 3 days away from the 2007 season, and I am ready for a tough, hard fought Buckeye victory! Unfortunately, that won’t come for a couple of weeks, as we open with Youngstown State. Oh well, I’ll take my Buckeye fix anyway I can get it. On to the rest of the countdown- (the first half was actually 60 reasons, so its not really half…never mind…)

  • All the hoopla and hype at UM. What I love is that Henne or Long, or Carr can’t be interviewed without the question “CAN you beat Ohio State this year?” I LOVE IT!!!!!
  • This YouTube video (by the way, this was found on Buckeye Battle Cry, and I nearly wept when I saw it.)

  • I asked John to give me three reasons why his pumped up- so here they are-

The Brians Hartline and Robiskie shocking defenses that get a little too focused on Chris Wells.

Hearing the “Buckeye Battle Cry” and “Fight the Team” a LOT this season.

Watching another “rebuilt” defense dominate the Big 10 yet again.

  • Tresselball in full swing.
  • Watching games in my new Ohio State room! Yeah, while I was out of town for my fantasy draft my wife transformed the empty room upstairs into a full blown Buckeye mancave. I’ll put pictures up when we completely finish. Let’s just say the walls are Gray, with two Scarlet accent walls. We will be painting the stripes from on top of the helmet along the gray walls. She bought me a mini-fridge, and found some bar chairs that she refinished (with some help from friends) in black, with Scarlet upholstery. She got me a gray bar and bar stools, and refinished a coffee table black. There is an OSU day bed complete with pillows, and of course all my flags and pictures will be on the walls quite soon. Yeah, you’re jealous. Its ok. I know.
  • How about this YouTube video.
  • That video had nothing to do with the Buckeyes! Right, kind of like why are we playing Youngstown State? I know that Tressel coached there before, but that’s kind of like saying I thought this was a funny video in 1986 when I was 13. Doesn’t have much value today. We really have nothing to gain by playing YSU. Please, let’s not do something like this again. We owe Tressel as far as I’m concerned, so fine. We’ll play them once, but no more AA teams please.
  • Running Backs coach Dick Tressel. Yep. That Dick Tressel.
  • This t-shirt. http://www.spreadshirt.com/shop.php?op=article&article_id=2353548&p=1
  • October 20th against Michigan State. We still owe them a few beat downs for the Cooper era.
  • How about Brian Hartline.

  •  The Back Bend.
  • Serving up a little Golden Gopher on September 29th.
  • Yeah, I know I mentioned Carmen Ohio already, but um…this is awesome.
  • Watching guys play (especially in the second half this week) who won’t be making millions of dollars in the NFL, because they want to play the game!
  • The best fans in the nation are in O-H-I-O!
  • Home and home with USC starts next year! Yeah, let’s get ready for that game early!
  • Unstoppable team in NCAA ’07 (Thank you Troy Smith)
  • Malcolm Jenkins proudly representing #2
  • My Chris Spielman story.

My dad takes me to my first game at the Shoe to see Chris Spielman play. I had one of those Kodak disc cameras. I also had a pair of binoculars because we were rather high up. So halfway through the game I decide to take a picture of Spielman. I put the lens of the Disc camera right on one of the eyepieces of the binoculars, and put my eye on the other. I snapped the picture. My dad tells me of course that this will never work, so I forget about it and watch the rest of the game. We beat Wisconsin and go to Conrads after the game where he buys me my first OSU jersey, a red #36. The next day wearing my new jersey we sneak into the shoe, and I climb the steps in front of the scoreboard. Dad takes my picture and we go home. The next week, when my mom got the pictures back she looked at them and commented that we must have been very close to the game. When I assured her that we were in fact in the nosebleed section, she showed me the picture of Chris Spielman that I had taken. It was perfect. Looked like we were about 10 rows up in the stands. Yeah, don’t squash a young Buckeye’s enthusiasm!

  • Must be time for another video.
  • Brandon Saine- 6’1″ 220 pound RB Freshman from Piqua. Can he be the change of pace back this year?
  • 2006 #1 Ohio State 42 #2 michigan 39. Tressel’s 5th victory over SCum, and 3rd in a row.
  • Because not everyone knows them- the words of Carmen Ohio.
Oh come let’s sing Ohio’s praise
And songs to Alma Mater raise
While our hearts rebounding thrill
With joy which death alone can still
Summer’s heat or winter’s cold
The seasons pass the years will roll
Time and change will surely (truly) show
How firm thy friendship … OHIO!
These jolly days of priceless worth
By far the gladdest days on earth
Soon will pass and we not know
How dearly we love Ohio
We should strive to keep thy name
Of fair repute and spotless fame
So in college halls well grow
And love thee better … OHIO!
Though age may dim our mem’ry’s store
We’ll think of happy days of yore
True to friend and frank to foe
As sturdy sons of Ohio
If on seas of care we roll
Neath blackened sky or barren shoal
Thoughts of thee bid darkness go
Dear Alma Mater…OHIO!
  • The Big Ten is the oldest Division 1 college athletic conference in the country. And I’m tired of hearing about the SEC, and the Pac 10. The Pac 10 is so weak. Every year in the Big 10 4 or 5 teams have a shot at the title, can’t say that about the Crap 10. And please spare me Big 12, don’t even go there.
  • Maybe, just maybe we can have a day where we don’t hear about Michael Vick.
  • Aesculus glabra. (That’s a Buckeye tree.)
  • Buckeye leaf stickers are really the best individual award there is in college football.

What else could you say? A dogbone? A tomahawk? I  don’t think so.

  • Not to mention the chocolate peanut butter confections. Yum.
  • Block O. You guys are loud and proud!
  • A Sea of Scarlet on Saturdays.

  • #88 TE Rory Nicol. I’ve got one of those ‘under the radar’ type of player kind of vibe that he’s going to be a big part of our success this year.
  • The last time a “rookie” was the starting quarterback for OSU was Craig Krenzel. You may have heard of him.
  • Terrelle Pryor is considering Ohio State. He is a monster talent. Hope he decides to bring it to Columbus.
  • Louis Irizarry is playing for Youngstown State this Saturday. I’ve got money says he gets knocked on his can a few times.
  • Anderson Russell comes back from major knee surgery to push for a starting spot. Good story.
  • Ok, so the new turf doesn’t really excite me, but it looks pretty.

  •  Dane Sanzenbacher. Not just another fun name- a WR with a chance to shine this Saturday because of Roy Small’s injury.
  • Being very close to Toledo, there are a ton of SCum fans here. I hope they run their mouths. Bring it!

  1. We want to see pictures of your Ohio State room…..I’ll post pics of mine too.

  2. You guys put me to shame, I don’t even have an Ohio State room per se.

There isn’t much more she could have done. We don’t have much money, she found a lot of stuff at yard sales and fixed them up. I’m finishing it the rest of the week. Tonight I’m going to paint the stripes while I watch the Browns/Indians games. Doesn’t get much better than that! I want to see your room Jeff.

  4. I do have something coming into my possession shortly that might make you jealous.
