Fantasy football projections week 2

Calm down, take a deep breath. Remember that 1 week does not make a trend. Matt Leinart will throw for more than 102 yards a week. Chris Brown will not lead the league in rushing. Things can be exposed in one week however. The Jacksonville defense had better make some adjustments, because a blueprint has been written against them. The Saints offense might have been exposed a little. Atlanta is a complete mess. We’re going to switch up the way we project, we’ll give you a ranking for the players from a scale of 1-5. 5 is the strongest play, 1 the weakest. Anyone not listed is a 0. Now on to the projections.

Sunday 1:00 starts

Buffalo @ Pittsburgh

For Buffalo- Marshawn Lynch 2, for 2 reasons- first because rookie RB’s are traditionally not very consistent. Second because it has been a difficult week for the Bills, and Pittsburgh’s D looked better against the run than we expected. J.P. Losman 2. Lee Evans 3. Josh Reed 1. Rian Lindell 2. Defense 2.

For Pittsburgh- Roethlisberger 3, the Steelers will focus more on the rushing game this week, especially after watching Travis Henry run wild on them last week. Willie Parker 4. Hines Ward 3. Santonio Holmes 2, however this is a situation we are monitoring. Holmes might become the best fantasy WR on this team. Defense 3.

Houston @ Carolina

For Houston- Andre Johnson 5. He was the most dependable fantasy WR last year, and he has an instant connection with Schaub. Matt Schaub 2, Schaub has a good chance to move up the QB depth chart, but we want to see him throw to more than 1 receiver. Ahman Green 1. Kris Brown 1. Defense 2.

For Carolina- The Foster/Williams split backfield was in full effect last week. Until a clear cut pattern is established it will be difficult to recommend either back with a 4 or a 5. Steve Smith 5. Jake Delhomme 4. Drew Carter 2. DeShaun Foster 3. Deangelo Williams 2. John Kasay 4. Defense 4.

Atlanta @ Jacksonville

For Atlanta- Dunn averaged 2.5 yards a carry. Not good. The Jerious Norwood era is coming. Joey Harrington 1. Warrick Dunn 1. Jerious Norwood 1. Alge Crumpler 3. Matt Prater 2. Defense 3.

For Jacksonville- Last week was one of those bizarre games for the Jaguars. They made the Titan defense look really good. They aren’t. Jacksonville will bounce back. Maurice Jones-Drew 4. David Garrard 2. Dennis Northcutt 2. Ernest Wilford 1. Marcedes Lewis 3 as good a TE option as any this week. Defense 4. John Carney 2.

New Orleans @ Tampa Bay

For the Saints- Drew Brees and the offense should have a much better week. Drew Brees 4. Reggie Bush 3. Deuce McAllister 3. Further evidence that backs who split time should never be drafted higher than those who are feature backs. Did Bush go higher than Parker or Johnson in your draft? Marques Colston 4. Devery Henderson 2. Eric Johnson 2. Defense 3. Olindo Mare 4.

For Tampa Bay- Cadillac Willimas 2, he didn’t practice Wednesday. He is listed as questionable for Sunday. Michael Pittman 1. Neither one of them will see many carries this week, as the Bucs should be forced to air it out early. Jeff Garcia 2. Joey Galloway 2. Alex Smith 1. Defense 1. Matt Bryant 1.

Green Bay @ New York Giants

For the Packers- Am I the only one that was really unimpressed with the Packers in week 1? Yeah, they won, but they didn’t move the ball well, and scored because of field position. Brandon Jackson 1, he didn’t look that impressive to me, but what do I know right? He averaged 2.7 yards per carry. Better show me something if you want to be rated higher. Donald Driver 4. Brett Favre 3, the only reason for this is because Romo made swiss cheese of the Giants pass D. He may throw 3 TD’s, but there will be a pick or 2 as well. Mason Crosby 3. Defense 3.

For the Giants- All the rankings are completely dependent on the shoulder of Eli Manning. You can’t take a chance with your QB in fantasy football. Eli Manning 1. Derrick Ward 2. Reuben Droughns 1, who knows what will happen with Jacobs out. Jeremy Shockey 3, no matter who is throwing the ball the TE is usually the easiest option through the air to find. Plaxico Burress 1, nice game last week but that means nothing for this week. Defense 2, would be worse, but they are playing Favre. Lawrence Tynes 0. Just wanted to catch your attention. He might not play anyways.

San Francisco @ St. Louis

For San Francisco- Frank Gore 5, should have a strong week against a Ram defense that allowed 186 yards to the Panthers. Alex Smith 2. Darrell Jackson 3. Vernon Davis 3. Joe Nedney 3. Defense 2.

For the Rams- Marc Bulger 3, won’t have as much fantasy value if he is running for his life. Steven Jackson 5, though we are nervous without Pace in there. Torry Holt 4. Drew Bennett 2, has been declared healthy and will play Sunday. Issac Bruce 1. Jeff Wilkins 4. Defense 2.

Cincinnati @ Cleveland

For the Bengals- If you thought Roethlisberger looked for rookie corner back Eric Wright last week, you haven’t seen anything yet. Carson Palmer 5, will target Wright nearly every play. Chad Johnson 4, will be lined up against Bodden most of the time, making T.J. Houshmanzadeh 5, a better option, despite the knee. Rudi Johnson 4, always plays well against the Browns. Shayne Graham 3. Defense 3.

For the Browns- The good news is the Bengals D didn’t look much better than last year. The bad news is that the Browns didn’t do that well against them last year either. Kellen Winslow 4, is the best option for the Browns. Braylon Edwards 2. Derek Anderson 1. Brady Quinn 1. Jamal Lewis 2. Phil Dawson 1. Defense um, no.

Indianapolis @ Tennessee

For the Colts- Start ’em all. Seriously. Peyton Manning 5. Joeseph Addai 5. Marvin Harrison 5. Reggie Wayne 4. Dallas Clark 3. Anthony Gonzalez 2. Adam Vinatieri 5. Defense 4. The ball boy is a 1 here.

For the Titans- Vince Young 2, he will have to put the ball in the air to win this week. That isn’t good news for Tennessee. Chris Brown 1. LenDale White 1. Brandon Jones 1. Eric Moulds 1. Rob Bironas 1. Defense 0.

Sunday 4:15 games

Minnesota @ Detroit

For the Vikings- Adiran Peterson 4, is the best option on the Vikes hands down, with Chester Taylor on the shelf. Tavarius Jackson 1. Ryan Longwell 2. Defense 3. No, I didn’t forget to rate the receivers. There aren’t any legit fantasy wide outs here.

For the Lions- It will be tough for the Lions to get much done on the ground, so look for Jon Kitna 4, to have a nice day. Roy Williams 4. Calvin Johnson 3. Mike Fuerry 2. Tatum Bell 2, mostly because he won’t share carries with anyone, and could get a short yardage TD. Jason Hanson 4. Defense 3.

Dallas @ Miami

For the Cowboys- Tony Romo 4, was the fantasy stud last week. He should have another good week. Terrell Owens 5, man I hate him. Jason Witten 4. Patrick Crayton 2. Marion Barber 3, I’m calling it. He is the better option this year in this RB committee. Julius Jones 2. Nick Folk 4, out of nowhere. Defense 4, Miami offense is terrible.

For Miami- Ronnie Brown 2, should get the bulk of the carries this week. Chris Chambers 3, is your best bet here. The Cowboys surrendered a lot of yards through the air last week. Trent Green 2. Jay Feely 2. Defense 1.

Seattle @ Arizona

For the Seahawks- Shaun Alexander 5, could have a monster game this week. He has been known to torch the Cardinals. Like say his 313 yards and 6 TD’s against them in ’05. Matt Hasslebeck 3, will fare better than the 49ers did last week. Deion Branch 2,whiffed last week, but will be better. Marcus Pollard 2. Nate Burelson 1. Josh Brown 4. Defense 3.

For Arizona- Wow. What a crappy week for them. I can’t imagine the San Fran defense is really that good. Here’s hoping Matt Leinart 3, snaps out of whatever funk he was in. Edge James 3. Larry Fitzgerald 4. Anquan Boldin 3. Neil Rackers 3. Defense 2.

New York Jets @ Baltimore

For the Jets- Looks like Pennington probably won’t play. Laveranues Coles 2, drops significantly because of it. Jerricho Cotchery 1. Thomas Jones 1, he should be featured, but he is banged up, and the Ravens should load up the line. Mike Nugent 1. Defense 2.

For Baltimore- Willis McGahee 4. Todd Heap 3, no matter who is the QB. Derrick Mason 1. Mark Clayton 1. Matt Stover 5. Defense 5, even if Ray Lewis sits.

Oakland @ Denver

For the Raiders- Only team with a more confusing QB situation than Cleveland. LaMont Jordan 1. Ron Curry 1, though he might be a decent 3rd wide out option as the season wears on. Janikowski 1. Defense 2.

For the Broncos- Travis Henry 4, he would have been one of the fantasy studs of week one had he crossed the goal line. Jay Cutler 3. Javon Walker 4. Daniel Graham 3. Brandon Stokely 1. Jason Elam 5. Defense 4.

Kansas City @ Chicago

For Kansas City- Larry Johnson 3, would love to put his poor showing last week behind him, unfortunately he is facing the Bears’ D. Damon Huard 1. Tony Gonzalez 3. Samie Parker 1, became the #1 WR because of the injury to Kennison. Ouch. Defense 2. No, I didn’t forget their kicker.

For the Bears- Well, someone has to score here- why not Cedric Benson 3. Rex Grossman 3. Desmond Clark 1, will start for injured Greg Olsen. Muhsin Muhammad 2. Robbie Gould 3. Defense 5.

San Diego @ New England

For the Chargers- L. Tomlinson 5, you expected something else? Antonio Gates 4, should be able to play and is a good option here. Vincent Jackson 1. Philip Rivers 3. Nate Kaeding 4. Defense 4.

For the Patriots- Tom Brady 4. Randy Moss 4. Ben Watson 3. Donte Stallworth 2. Wes Welker 2. Laurence Maroney 2, because of the tough Charger defense. Gostkowski 4. Defense 4. Film editors 4.

Monday Night

Washington @ Philadelphia

For the Redskins- Clinton Portis 4, looked really good last week against a Miami defense that was supposed to be pretty good. Ladell Betts 1. Santana Moss 3. Randle El 1, I’m not buying his bloated numbers from last week. Jason Campbell 2. Chris Cooley 1. Shaun Suisham 3. Defense 2.

For the Eagles- Donavon McNabb 4, is better than that performance. Brian Westbrook 4. Reggie Brown 2. L.J. Smith 3. Kevin Curtis 1. David Akers 4. Defense 4.

  1. My biggest question is how Ronnie Brown will preform this season. I agree that he should get the bulk of carries this week, but with this guys talent that should go unsaid everyweek!!! He is a beast and Cam Cameron needs to use him like he did LT.

  2. Ryan

Who the hell is Mark Witten?

  3. rickg15

Sorry about that- I meant Jason Witten TE
