Fantasy Football Projections week 3

Well, 2 weeks into the season we can begin to get an idea of where teams are at. For example- the Patriots* were worth the preseason hype. They have a dynamic offense, and that is without getting much production from Maroney or Stallworth. (I should know, I have both of those guys!) The Falcons are an absolute mess. Still. They will attempt to get Byron Leftwich in town and up to speed quickly. Will he make a difference? Probably not much. A couple of teams are mysteries- like the Saints. What has happened to this offense? And where in the world did the Bengals hide their defense? Last week’s fantasy stud(s) come from the Cleveland/Cincinnati game…

anderson and Palmer

How about this, the position that won or lost your fantasy match-up this week was probably the WR position. Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, Braylon Edwards, Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, and Joey Galloway all caught multiple TD’s and went over 100 yards. Joe Jurevicius and T.J. Houshmanzadeh also caught 2 scores, but failed to crack the century mark. What a wierd start to the fantasy season. How about Travis Henry, Jamal Lewis, and Willie Parker all have more yards than Tomlinson, Larry Johnson, and Ronnie Brown COMBINED! Let’s get to the projections, remember the number next to each player’s name is a rating from 1 to 5 on how strong a week they are likely to have…

Sunday 1:00 games

Detroit @ Philadelphia

For the Lions- Jon Kitna 3, reported no effects on Monday from the concussion he suffered last week. I suspect the Eagles will be better this week. Roy Williams 4, Calvin Johnson 3, Tatum Bell 2, Jason Hanson 3, Defense 2

For the Eagles- I’ve got Donovan McNabb 3, on a short leash these days (nothing to do with race Donovan, more to do with you sucking my fantasy team into the abyss.) Brian Westbrook 4, Kevin Curtis 1, Reggie Brown 1 (You stiff- you are dead to me!), David Akers 4, Defense 2

Miami @ N.Y. Jets

For the Dolphins- Man what a piece of junk this game is going to be. Ronnie Brown 2, has more receiving yards than rushing yards so far this year. Trent Green 2 is not worth the gamble. Chris Chambers 3 is the best fantasy option on the team, but that isn’t saying much. Jay Feely 3, Defense 3

For the Jets- No word yet on whether Chad Pennington will play. Whether or not he is the starter, he or Kellen Clemons 2, aren’t strong plays. Thomas Jones 2 faces a little easier D this week, but that doesn’t mean he will find his groove. Jerricho Cotchery 2, Laveranues Coles 2, Mike Nugent 2, Defense 3

Buffalo @ New England

For the Bills- There are no strong plays for Buffalo as they are struggling and travelling to New England. JP Losman is a 2 because he will have to throw all second half. Marshawn Lynch 1, Lee Evans 1, Rian Lindell 1, Defense 0

For the Patriots- Look for a good game from Maroney 4. He will get on track, and in the end zone this week. Tom Brady 5, Randy Moss 4, Wes Welker 3, Donte Stallworth 2, Gostkowski 3, Defense 5

Arizona @ Baltimore

For the Cardinals- Right about now would be when Leinart and the offense break out of their funk and light up the scoreboard. Except they are playing the Ravens. The struggles continue for another week. Matt Leinart 1, Larry Fitzgerald 2, Anquan Boldin 2, Edgerrin James 1, Neil Rackers 3, Defense 2

For the Ravens- Steve McNair 2, has been announced as the starter for this week. Which is probably good news for Willis McGahee 4, owners looking for production. Todd Heap 4, Derrick Mason 2, Matt Stover 4, Defense 5

St. Louis @ Tampa Bay

For the Rams- Marc Bulger 4, looked like he got on track a little last week, and will find his groove again this week. Steven Jackson 4, is going against a rush defense that has looked shaky this season, allowing 100+ yards and a score each week. Torry Holt 4, Isaac Bruce 2, Randy McMichael 1, Jeff Wilkins 4, Defense 2

For the Buccaneers- Cadilac Williams 3, is your best bet for good numbers this week. Don’t expect the air attack to have many games like they had against the Saints. Jeff Garcia 3, Joey Galloway 2, Alex Smith 1, Matt Bryant 2, Defense 1

San Francisco @ Pittsburgh

For the 49ers- This offense is banged up at the wrong time. Frank Gore 3, will play, but isn’t likely to find the end zone more than once. Alex Smith 1, just not a good fit against the Steelers. Darrell Jackson 1, not sure if he will play much with the back injury. Vernon Davis is a 1 until Smith throws him the ball. Looking more and more like a reach when he was drafted. Click Clack. Joe Nedney 2, Defense 2

For the Steelers- Willie Parker 4, finds the end zone to go along with his yards this week. Ben Roethlisberger 4, Hines Ward 2, Santonio Holmes 2, Jeff Reed 5, Defense 3

Indianapolis @ Houston

For the Colts- The Texans won last year, watch out for Houston, blah blah. The Colts are the better team and will prove it Sunday. Peyton Manning 5, and by the way, unless he blows a knee he will always be a 5, of course you don’t look here to see if you should start Manning. Marvin Harrison 4, Reggie Wayne 4, Joseph Addai 4, Dallas Clark 3, but watch the injury situation there. Adam Vinatieri 5, Defense 4

For the Texans- Bad news for Houston as Andre Johnson is out for this week. That makes him a 0 in case you didn’t figure that out. Though I might still play him if my choices were him and Reggie Brown of the Eagles. Matt Schaub 2, will struggle without Johnson. Ahman Green 2, but check the late injury reports on him as well. Owen Daniels 1, Kris Brown 3, Defense 2

San Diego @ Green Bay

For the Chargers- Seriously, I wouldn’t want to play San Diego after they got embarassed like that. LT 5, runs wild this week. Philip Rivers 3, Antonio Gates 4, Nate Kaeding 3, Defense 4

For the Packers- It’s no secret I’m not a fan of fantasy Brett Favre 2, but this week he is going to get picked and sacked. That isn’t bias. Donald Driver 3, whatever RB they throw out there 1, ok, that may be a copout, but seriously, who is going to get the majority of the touches? Will it matter against that defense? Mason Crosby 2, Defense 1

Minnesota @ Kansas City

For the Vikings- Sniff, sniff…I smell a trap. Doesn’t it just look like this week should be a coming out party for Adrian Peterson? Kansas City is lousy against the run, and Chester Taylor still isn’t quite healthy. This has all the makings of a 150 yard 2 TD game for Adrian. Funny how it rarely works out like that. He’s still a 4, don’t get me wrong. Just feels fishy. The QB situation is up for grabs too, as Tavarius Jackson is hobbled by a groin injury (he sucks too, but we’ll just ignore that for now) and nobody really knows who Childress will start. Bottom line- if you need points from Minnesota’s passing game then you aren’t going to win this week. Or next week. In fact, start working on fantasy basketball. Ryan Longwell 1, Defense 3

For the Chiefs- Oh, just because I blasted the Vikings doesn’t mean the Chiefs will win this game easily. Larry Johnson 3, had better find the forward gear this week or else the Chiefs will begin the Brian Brohm watch. Damon Huard 1, Tony Gonzalez 2, Justin Medlock 1, Defense 1 (And that may be the highest they get rated this year!)

Sunday 4:05 games

Cleveland @ Oakland

For the Browns- Yeah, I’m a Browns fan. So go ahead and ask which Brown’s offense will show up- week 1 or week 2? I’d say average the 2 together and you should be close. Derek Anderson 2, Jamal Lewis 2, Braylon Edwards 3, Kellen Winslow 4, Joe Jurevicius 1, Phil Dawson 3, Defense 1

For the Raiders- A close finish with a division rival, but will Josh McCown 2, keep his job long? Lamont Jordan 3, Ronald Curry 2, Jerry Porter 2, This is the first time we’ve listed Porter as an option this year. Mostly because #2 WR’s are going crazy against the Browns this year. Janikowski 1, Defense 2

Jacksonville @ Denver

For the Jaguars- So Jordan runs wild on the Broncos. Who will be the primary RB for the Jags this week? I think Jones-Drew 2 has the better chance. Though if I were game planning against Denver, I’d look at using my fullback. Fred Taylor 2, David Garrard 2, there are no solid WR options here, Josh Scobee 1, is questionable with an injury. Defense 2

For the Broncos- Travis Henry 4, has yet to find pay dirt. That has to end here no? Jacksonville has had trouble stopping the run this season, look for Denver to exploit that. Jay Cutler 3, is still learning the NFL game, but he is progressing. Javon Walker 4, is actually not Cutler’s favorite target in the red zone, but remains a top tier WR. Brandon Marshall 2, has had a couple of nice games, but we’re waiting to see the explosiveness he showed last year against Seattle and Cleveland. Daniel Graham 2, Jason Elam 5, Defense 4

Cincinnati @ Seattle

For the Bengals- The usual cast of characters should be started here. Funny, fantasy fans owning Bengals had a 1000% better week last week than the actual Bengals did. Carson Palmer 5, Chad Johnson 5, T.J. Houshmanzadeh 4, Rudi Johnson 4, Shayne Graham 4, Defense 2

For the Seahawks- Shaun Alexander 5, should get at least 150 and 2 scores right? Right. Matt Hasslebeck 4, is a strong play this week as well. Deion Branch 3, Josh Brown 4, Defense 1

N.Y. Giants @ Washington

For the Giants- Eli Manning 4, should be considered healthy enough to play no matter what rumors you hear this week. Shockey 4, if he can hold on to the ball this week. Plaxico Burress 3, is expected to play, however Brandon Jacobs is not. I’d say that makes Derrick Ward a solid 3 this week. Lawrence Tynes 4, Defense 2

For the Redskins- Jason Cambell 3, should have a decent game against a secondary that has been giving up a lot of yards and big plays. Clinton Portis 4, Ladell Betts 1, Antwaan Randle-El 2, Santana Moss 3, Chris Cooley 2, Defense 2

Carolina @ Atlanta

For the Panthers- Steve Smith shouldn’t have much success this week…just kidding, he’s a 5, Jake Delhomme 4, DeShaun Foster 3, is getting a little more of the workload right now, but both he and DeAngelo Williams 2,could have decent days this week. Drew Carter 1, John Kasay 4, Defense 5

For the Falcons- Alge Crumpler 2. Yep. Defense 1.

Sunday Night

Dallas @ Chicago

For the Cowboys- Here you go, offense versus defense. Who wins? This week, probably both. Tony Romo 3, Marion Barber 3, Julius Jones 1, Terrell Owens 4, Jason Witten 3, Nick Folk 3 Defense 3

For the Bears- Rex Grossman 2, has never faced Dallas. I don’t know who that benefits? Cedric Benson 2, had a great game last week. That was against the Chiefs. Show me again. Bernard Berrian 2, Desmond Clark 1, Muhsin Muhammad 1, may not go again this week. Robbie Gould 2, Defense 4

Monday Night

Tennessee @ New Orleans

For the Titans- Who thought this would be a good Monday night game? I know the Saints should be better, but what a bad game this could be. Vince Young 3, could blow up here. Might be the best time for a spot start for him. LenDale White 2, Chris Brown 2, Rob Bironas 3, Defense 2

For the Saints- If Drew Brees 4, doesn’t have a good game this week I’m pushing the panic button on him. Reggie Bush 3, Marques Colston 3, Olindo Mare 1, Defense 1

  1. You left out your prediction for Denver! You just told what Jacksonville would do. How would you rank Brandon Marshall and Jason Elam for the week?

  2. Sorry about that…not sure what happened there. I gave you a little extended Denver forecast for pointing that one out!
